I have been working with Katherine Sims, M.D., Director of the Developmental Neurogenetics Clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital. An Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Sims is actively involved in a late onset NCL disorders research project that is entering its second phase. Ongoing funding for this project is much needed.
Dr. Sara Mole
Dr. Sara Mole of University College London is another research scientist who has been collecting samples from families with Batten to work with other scientists to identify the genes causing their disease. She coordinates labs in Europe and around the world to work together to identify those genes that cause rare diseases such as Batten disease. She probably has the largest collections of Batten disease samples in the world. She has also just edited a book on Batten disease containing the most up to date information on this disease.
Research of this kind is a long and complex undertaking. Success will be achieved through the combination of dedicated professionals who believe in the importance of their work, supported by generous individuals like you.
