Welcome to
Catherine's Hope for a Cure

My Name is Catherine Abbott-Horowitz-Butters. I live in South Florida with my two children, Nicholas and Alex. I have Batten disease, a Neuronal Ceroid Lipofucsinosis (NCL) disorder. I started Catherine’s Hope for a Cure to raise funds necessary to cure Batten disease.

Batten disease is a progressive, always fatal, neurodegenerative disease in which there is no cure. There is dire need for funding to help find a cure and raise awareness to this devastating illness.

My own interest in organizing a charity that helps fund this much needed research is very personal. My father, August Abbatematteo, passed away in 2009. He lived with Batten disease for 10 years. I completed an extensive diagnostic evaluation and was positively diagnosed with the dominant form as well. I’ve learned that a disease doesn’t seem so rare when you are diagnosed with it. Batten is frightening to live with and the concern for my children is unbearable.

Any contribution you can make would be so greatly appreciated. Our purpose is to find at least a treatment and a cure for the most prevellent neurogenerative disease in children.

Catherine's Hope for a Cure is dedicated to Batten disease research and finding cures that save lives.

Proceeds support Batten Disease research.
